Chicago’s Albany Park, there’s a parking lot space next to the Kimball CTA station. The space is the hub of many kinds of transportation and demography. We extend and analyze those features to create our project could be the Mobility Plaza.
Site: 3311 W Lawerence Ave, Chicago, IL 60625
Approximate Dimensions: 245’ x 65’ = 15,925 SF
The Mobility Plaza integrates three intersecting ribbon structures over an open ground-level space to create a library of mobility equipment, promoting environmentally friendly transportation.
These ribbons serve as pathways, canopies, and storage for mobility options such as bikes, scooters, and skateboards while rerouting pedestrian and bike traffic to connect with
the nearby Kimball CTA train station.
Visitors can borrow, test, and return equipment, fostering engagement with the neighborhood and encouraging active transportation.
By combining utility, convenience, and interaction, the plaza enhances local transit options and community atmosphere actively while supporting sustainable mobility.
